Ways to save when purchasing low cost auto insurance

Shopping for the lowest rate for low cost auto insurance can be tricky.  When you compare auto rates versus other forms of insurance, the rates can be high so its always good to investigate. Affordaple auto insurance is definately a reality if you take some basic steps to get the right coverage.

First, the internet is a wonderful source for shopping for auto insurance.  You can easily get the names and numbers of multiple agents and companies by just accessing your local searches. However, I would encourage you to BEWARE of purchasing by yourself over the internet.  Often times consumers purchase coverages that are not appropriate to their needs and they don't find out until you've had an accident. So, it is advisable to use the internet but still contact an insurance professional to help you with your choice.

Second, when you look at low cost auto insurance consider the milage you drive to and from work as well as your annual mileage. Many carriers will discount your coverages if you drive less than 10,000 or 8,500 miles pey year. Make sure you take advantage of your low mileage driving. For example, someone driving locally from Wheaton, IL to Wheaton, IL each day is far less likely to get in an accident than the same client driving from Wheaton, IL to Chicago, IL.

Third, when looking for affordable rates keep in mind a good driving record is helpful.  Tickets and accidents are used by most insurance carriers as a barometer of what you will be like as a driver for them. If you have multiple tickets and accidents, the companies think you will continue to have tickets and accidents. Consequently, the rates can be higher!

Lastly, spend time looking for the lowest rates. Have your independent agent fax, mail or e-mail you multiple quotes. You might be surprised that the Companies that advertise on T.V. are not always the least expensive!
