In May 1862, an extremely powerful  and well armed French army was in Mexico, fighting its way to Mexico City, hoping to force the Mexican government to pay their debts. Outside of the town of Puebla,  a most unlikely event occurred. Untrained Mexican soldiers with shabby equipment, defeated the French.The Battle of Puebla is remembered every May fifth.
