In July of 2006, then Governor Rod Blagojevich signed into law, that the penalties for driving without insurance would get tougher.
Starting July 1st of 2007, uninsured drivers will lose their license for three months and have to pay a $100 dollar fee to get it back. Anyone who drives while on a suspension will lose their license for an additioal six months.
This new penalty is on top of the esisting fines, which range from $500 to $1000 dollars.
